How are the ingredients in Power to Sleep PM?
Plentiful. There are many ingredients in this sleep aid, with the majority pulling their weight to help with relaxation.
The sleep-induction side of this supplement however is somewhat weaker. It still has some of an effective, but more could be done.
Take a look at the ingredient profile, and we’ll walk you through our views and findings:
This isn’t the best way to start Power to Sleep PM, but it still will deliver some benefit.
Calcium is a mineral that is essential to human survival. Helping with numerous functions of your body it is good for general health.
So, how does it help with sleep?
Mainly by helping the amino acid L-Tryptophan to convert into Melatonin. Melatonin is your body’s natural sleep hormone. By having an optimum amount of this you can ensure a much more effective night’s sleep.
Calcium is okay, but it would be better if there as some L-Tryptophan in this supplement for it to support.
This is a much better ingredient in Power to Sleep PM. Magnesium is a fantastic mineral for promoting long undisturbed sleep.
It works by interacting with your body’s nervous system. Magnesium helps to relax neuromuscular impulses across your body overnight. In short, this means it can help to reduce twitches and jerks which would normally keep you awake.
This can give you the benefit of a longer, undisturbed sleep allowing you to get more shuteye. It helps to eliminate unwanted, unconscious factors that wake us up.
This is another good choice in Power to Sleep PM, although it doesn’t promote sleep directly.
So, how does Valerian help you?
It’s a root that it commonly used in herbal teas to help with sleep – but works in a slightly different way.
Valerian helps by promoting feelings of relaxation while reducing anxiety. It does this by increasing a hormone in your system known as GABA. This can help get you in a much better mindset to fall asleep faster and more comfortably.
Another great option in Power to Sleep PM, and again, doesn’t directly promote sleep but still helps.
Ashwagandha is an anti-stress herb. Supplementing it can help reduce your overall levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
The more cortisol you have in your system, the more stressed you are. As you know, being stressed is not ideal when you want to sleep.
Ashwagandha can help to reduce your overall levels of cortisol. This can lower your stress levels and give you a calmer outlook which can allow you to rest more easily.
This is a nice support to see in Power to Sleep PM. We say support because Hops is commonly coupled with Valerian when it comes to sleep and relaxation.
Some research has shown that Hops may also help to increase your levels of GABA when supplemented. This again, helps to reduce anxiety and promote a more relaxed mood which can help lull you to sleep.
A herb commonly used in nighttime herbal teas to help promote sleep. But does Passionflower actually work in Power to Sleep PM?
We think so. Passionflower contains a bioflavonoid known as Apigenin. This is the reason it works.
Apigenin has been seen in numerous studies to help promote calmness and relaxation. It doesn’t promote sleep directly, like many of the ingredients in here, but it can help get you into that ready to sleep mindset.
This is a good choice in Power to Sleep PM, and it’s interesting why.
Lemon Balm is commonly used in cognitive enhancers and has claims to boost focus. However, continuous study has shown that this is not actually the case, and it doesn’t perform that well.
What it does do, however, is promote sedation and calmness. This is particularly useful when it comes to falling asleep.
Although it fails a nootropic, Lemon Balm shines as a sleep aid.
This is an amino acid that we’ve already spoken about in this report. GABA is a good option when it comes to sleep and we’re glad to see it in Power to Sleep PM.
As we’ve already mentioned, GABA can help reduce anxiety while promoting calmness and relaxation.
It helps to give you a much more tranquil mindset which makes it easier to fall asleep with.
Another amino acid that helps with GABA production. The L-Theanine in Power to Sleep PM is an amino acid that helps promote calmness and relaxation.
It does this by boosting your overall GABA levels.
You can commonly find L-Theanine in herbs like Green Tea. It’s a natural and effective amino acid.
This is arguably the most potent ingredient in Power to Sleep PM. Melatonin is your body’s natural sleep hormone, by supplementing it, you can help to juice up your overall levels.
It helps to both regulate your sleep and maintain a healthy sleep pattern. However, we do have some concerns with the Melatonin in this supplement – it’s unclear whether or not it’s natural.
Many supplement companies prefer to use synthetic Melatonin in a lab for convenience, however, they sometimes aren’t as potent. This could be an issue and effect the overall result of the supplement.
Bioperine & Ginger
Nothing special here, this is just sensible support in Power to Sleep PM.
Bioperine (Black Pepper) and Ginger are great for improving your overall absorption of nutrients. This can help you to absorb more of the ingredients in this supplement and help it all happen at a much faster rate.
Power to Sleep PM Ingredient Profile Summary
As you can see, there are a lot of ingredients in Power to Sleep PM.
There are many here that help with the mindset (calming, relaxation, etc.) but there’s only a few things in here which are working towards directly boosting melatonin levels.
Adding some L-Tryptophan to compliment the Calcium in here would be a great move. That also converts into Melatonin after being absorbed.
Another ingredient that would help here would be Tart Cherries and it would also help manage our fears of the Melatonin being artificial. Tart Cherries contain natural melatonin and have it in a good supply. Supplementing this instead would give your body a purer source of the sleep hormone.
Is Power to Sleep PM safe to use?
It should be. All the ingredients in here don’t have links to causing side effects at these dosages.
However, we always recommend that you check with your doctor before using a new supplement.
We also recommend with Power to Sleep PM that you make sure that you don’t have any preexisting conditions that wouldn’t react well to it.
Power to Sleep PM Summary
As you can see, this is a pretty comprehensive supplement from Irwin Naturals that contains a lot of different ingredients, many of which are good.
However, the bottom line remains that we want to see more direct sleep-inducers. Some natural melatonin from something like Tart Cherries would be great, the same goes for the precursor to melatonin L-Tryptophan.
It’s definitely not a bad sleep aid as it is, there’s just some improvements that would make it more effective.
